Important research materials related to the life of Samuel Gridley Howe, Julia Ward Howe and their daughters was gifted to the Perkins School for the Blind Archives by Howe’s biographer James Trent in December, 2015. The collection guide is now available online and the materials are available to researchers by appointment. The collection includes an extensive library spanning Howe’s contemporaries and associates, the Perkins Institution and the field of blindness and deafblindness, and other materials related to 19th century Boston and educational and political reform movements. Of special note are original signed correspondence and a wonderful set of photographs including carte des visits and cabinet cards.
