An 1856 edition of "The Vicar of Wakefield" was returned to Perkins this year after roughly 159 years. The book was printed at the Perkins Institution in Boston Line Type, a raised type for the blind. The volume was discovered at the Hadley School for the Blind and generously returned on account of a note on the inside cover that states: "This Book is loaned by the Perkins Institution for the Blind, Boston; And is to be sent back."
For additional information about books for the blind and Boston Line Type please see our exhibit Writing Systems for the Blind Used by Helen Keller.
