Grant Awarded by National Endowment for the Humanities

We are honored to have been awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to arrange, describe, and create access to our 19th century collections.  This 3-year grant will enable us to process some of our most valuable materials and we look forward to making them more widely available.  The project began on July 1, 2012 and is funded through June 30, 2015.

The collections that will be processed as part of this project are:

1. Perkins correspondence collection, incoming and outgoing, 1828-1933

2. Papers of Samuel Gridley Howe (first director of Perkins), 1831-1876

3. Papers of Michael Anagnos (second director of Perkins), 1876-1906

4. Julia Ward Howe collection, 1845-1992

5. Perkins Kindergarten for the Blind collection

6. Laura Bridgman collection, 1829-2012

7. Teachers’ journals of Perkins’ Deafblind students, Including Laura Bridgman, 1841- 1849

8. Institutional records

9. Helen Keller and Arthur Gilman collection, 1887-1904
